Guess Who's Back. Back Again
I feel like I’m always writing about how its been so long since I last blogged. The written word is really just not preferred mode of communication. Ive completely fallen off the fitness wagon. After the 1/2 in September I let everything fall apart. My diet has consisted mostly of junk food with a veggie and some fruit thrown in here and there. With my diet not going so well, I haven’t...

Pa Does Life: the best laid plans o' mice and men →
So true Pa, so true. On the bright side this didn’t apply to me today. 3.1 in 32 minutes. No big deal. padoeslife: go oft awry OR the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Maybe you’ve experienced this: You’re sitting at work, thinking about all the things you should be doing, or could be doing, or would rather be doing. Like running. You’re like — If I weren’t working, I’d be...

I’m using today to remember all those who lost their lives on this day 10 years ago and also to remember all those who have given their lives for mine since that day. I can’t believe its been so long. It’s important that we not take for granted all that we’ve been given especially the time we have with our loved ones. Tell someone you love them today.

Ben Does Life.: Ironman →
bendoeslife: EmilyDoesScience is thinking about doing an Ironman (p.s. go tell her to definitely sign up for one.) And I realized that, more often than not, the thing keeping us from signing up for things is that we don’t believe we can do them or that we’re “too scared” to do them. And I get it; it’s a…

Long Time No Blog
I just realized I haven’t blogged in forever. The last month has been very busy with real life things. The new job is underway. Tomorrow is the first day of “school” I don’t have any classes but it will be crazy none the less. Work plus training takes up most off my time. Sometimes I just forget to check in here. By the way, training has been going pretty well. I’ve...

I always thought guys didn’t like me. →
This really resonated with me. one-twenty-five: I always thought guys didn’t like me. I wasn’t skinny, pretty, funny enough for any of them to be interested in me. I had come to accept that growing up; I just wasn’t good enough, so obviously they wouldn’t like me. I never even looked for signs of them liking me, because, well, what was the…

Positive
I’ve come to realize negative people suck. They don’t add anything of value. In fact they actually take and never give. I really can’t stand people who complain all the time. I am one of these people. The reason I don’t like them is because I see something in them that reminds me of something I don’t like about myself. I want to be happy. I’ve wasted far too...

Rejuvinated
That is how I feel. I’ve started eating healthier and getting back to my exercise routine. It’s beginning of week two. The first two weeks are always exciting in a new endeavor. I really hope to keep the momentum up. Yesterdays run was slow and very hot. It took me an hour and a 1/2 to finish 6 miles. There was quite a bit of walking involved. It got done and that’s really all...

Hot Hot Hot
About to start a 6 miler in this hot hot heat. I don’t care how long it takes as long as I finish. I washed a pair capris just to get all sweaty in them again.

Good Morning Sunshine!
So I did a little experiment Tuesday. I’ve been wanting to do my workouts in the morning for awhile. The thought of having them done before my day starts just sounded awesome. I like working out but sometimes I feel like it gets in the way or takes too much time out of my nights. Plus things are going to get really busy in the next few weeks because of my AMAZING NEW JOB! More on that later....

Did Life!
Thursday was amazing! I am so glad I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and went to the Do Life 5k in Buffalo. So you know when you make plans for something and you have this idea of how its going to happen and then reality sets in and its nothing like you pictured it. So before leaving on Thursday I thought we would get there early, have time to chat with everyone for a bit. Instantly everyone...

Do Life!
Taking Matt to the Do Life 5k in Buffalo in Delaware Park. Going to meet Jed, Pa and Ben. Kind of nervous and super excited almost feels like a date. Only knowing them through their blogs makes me think of them as celebrities. I can’t wait to connect with other runners! Tell you more later.

Back in saddle kiddos. Thank you very much to the oh so amazing talented Genesee Region Coach of the Year for making a new training plan for Matt and I. It’s more like a pre-training training plan. This will gear us up for Charleston Marathon training in late September. My next race will be the Brighton Firecracker on July 4th, a 5 miler.  A bit nervous because my endurance is not where it...

Where is that damn wagon!?
Holy crap! I got on the scale the other day and that pretty much sums up how I felt when I saw the number. I have been really bad this month. No exercising, crappy eating, depressed, unmotivated, bored disappointed. How did I let this happen? May was supposed to be about strengthening and recovery from my running injuries. Instead I’ve made it about wallowing in my pain and eating my...

Be A Part of Life
I’m really tempted to write the phrase the most important thing or the best advice or if you only take one thing away from this but I’m going to refrain. This is because depending on the day, weather, my mood, my feelings about myself and the world that “most important thing” changes. Instead what I’m going to say is what I find to be a really powerful idea is that we...

I Did It
Wahoo! I completed 13.1 miles! My first race since the 5k I did in October. This post is a bit overdue. I don’t know why I didn’t post sooner.  Anyway it was a great day to race. The weather was in the upper 50s low 60s.  I started the race next to Amy, who was so encouraging. Love you Amy! You kicked butt! As we looked at the road ahead of us we could see the hundreds of people in...

Ben Does Life.: We run. They're all true →
bendoeslife: We run because we have to. We run to go fast, and we run to go far. We run to break the tape; we run just to finish. We run for fun when no one’s around. We run to get inverted V muscles above our kneecaps. We run to get the regular V above our hips. We run to clear our mind. We run because…

The training playlist. At first I tried to make them all about running/movement. I had the thought of “catching up” on posts but that frankly takes more time than I have. Instead I’m going to bullet through what’s been going on Physical Therapy is working. Still having some pain (Duh! I’m training and rehabbing at the same time) but it’s definitely less frequent. Success! I bought an exercise ball and headphones. I mention them in the same...

The previous post has nothing to do with running but I just couldn’t pass up sharing it. Teaching/Education is another of my passions. This idea seems genius. Can’t believe I had never considered it.  On a running note. I got out and ran 7.5 miles on Saturday. I did all by myself with no music. I thought it would be painfully long and arduous but it was actually mostly enjoyable. My...

It's Kneesy
Ok, before I mention anything else I have to say I love coming up with entry titles. Particularly proud of this one. I finally ran today! It feels like a major achievement after 2 weeks of not being allowed to (Dr.s orders. I get kind of obsessive about rules/receiving approval from authority). My knee pain was bad as I started out. I was really worried I wasn’t gonna be able to finish....

No Pain No Gain
Physical Therapy part 2. Did a nice little warm up on the bike. Painful through out. Then I did squats on on Chuck Norris’ Total Gym. I don’t think Chucks powers transfer when you use his equipment because my knee still hurt. Lunges were not and they were no fun either. Then some weird resistance band wall thingamadoo (official therapy term) The session ended with some ultra-sound...

Lets Get Physical
Things are looking up. I’m coming to realize that most of life is in your head. I don’t mean that you create the world around you in some crazy Inception like way. Rather the way we experience any particular moment is determined by our mindset. Everything is one big freakin mind game. The physical aspect is 10%. The other 90% is how you perceive it. So if you can master what’s...

Pain and Strain
Training is on hold right now. I went to the doctor on Thursday to find out what was going on with my knee. Still not sure what it is but I had an x-ray Friday and a physical therapy appointment for the 15th. I’ll get the results Monday. I can’t run until I get the results of the x-ray back. Hopefully its nothing serious. I doubt it is. The pain isn’t that intense. It feels like...

Back on the Horse
Why am I so inconsistent? I’ve been doing a lot self sabotage lately. This past week it took the form of not keeping to my training schedule. I ran 1 time last week. It’s really difficult to admit that because I am afraid of the judgment you might have for as readers. I need to be completely honest because it’s not always peaches and cream. I really came up against a wall last...
