Guess Who’s Back. Back Again
I feel like I’m always writing about how its been so long since I last blogged. The written word is really just not preferred mode of communication. Ive completely fallen off the fitness wagon. After the 1/2 in September I let everything fall apart. My diet has consisted mostly of junk food with a veggie and some fruit thrown in here and there. With my diet not going so well, I haven’t felt worthy of exercise. Now I’m up 12 pounds and starting to feel it on the way my pants are fitting. Not cool! I’ve let my busy work schedule be the excuse for me not working out. That’s really no reason to give up on healthy living. If nothing else it means I should be working harder than ever to eat well and exercise. With all of that going on I have given up (it hurts to see those words written out) on the Charleston Marathon. I get really overwhelmed by the idea of completing a Marathon. It’s a lot of hard work and I do not feel ready for it at all. I need to change over the 1/2 event. I’m gonna look at this time as a period to rebuild what I’ve what I’ve lost over the last two months. I want to feel healthy again. I want to fit in to pants again. I don’t want to spend money on bigger pants. Plus, I have some really cute clothes I want to keep. I’m not going to stay in this little whole of fatty foods and self loathing I’ve put myself in the last couple months. Time to get up and move.

So true Pa, so true. On the bright side this didn’t apply to me today. 3.1 in 32 minutes. No big deal.

Maybe you’ve experienced this:
You’re sitting at work, thinking about all the things you should be doing, or could be doing, or would rather be doing.
Like running. You’re like — If I weren’t working, I’d be out there pounding…

9/11
I’m using today to remember all those who lost their lives on this day 10 years ago and also to remember all those who have given their lives for mine since that day. I can’t believe its been so long. It’s important that we not take for granted all that we’ve been given especially the time we have with our loved ones. Tell someone you love them today.

EmilyDoesScience is thinking about doing an Ironman (p.s. go tell her to definitely sign up for one.)
And I realized that, more often than not, the thing keeping us from signing up for things is that we don’t believe we can do them or that we’re “too scared” to do them.
And I get it; it’s a…

Long Time No Blog
I just realized I haven’t blogged in forever. The last month has been very busy with real life things. The new job is underway. Tomorrow is the first day of “school” I don’t have any classes but it will be crazy none the less. Work plus training takes up most off my time. Sometimes I just forget to check in here. By the way, training has been going pretty well. I’ve been strength training AND running this time around. It has probably helped me a lot with injury prevention. I need to do 8 miles of running. Do I do it today and risk being caught in a lightning storm or hold out until tomorrow while I’m not sure Ill have time to actually run all those miles? These are my concerns at the moment.
Family night tonight. PF Changs at Eastview for Dinner. There may be a little bit of shopping beforehand. Also I was inspired by RachelReportsLife to post a picture of an attractive male.

Amazing idea. I’m not sure how to I can help. Anyone know of any good charities or marathons?
bendoeslife:
In the final days of the Do Life tour (actually, in the midst of a 9-mile run in Portland) Pa and I started throwing around ideas for 2012.
We wanted to keep the ball going and are in love with the idea of being an online movement that’s based offline.
After about 30 minutes, we came up with the plan. And once the plan started to take shape, it became a no-brainer.
We would run 52 official marathons and put on 52 Do Life 5K/meetups in the 52 weeks of 2012.
Why? … Well, there’s a few reasons. Let’s go bullet-points at it, shall we?
- To raise money for awesome charities and causes that we, as a community, feel passionate about. The 52 weeks will be broken down into a charity/cause of the week so we can devote full energy to each cause. And we are going to open this up to the masses. If you are passionate about a charity or cause, nominate it in the comment section and tell us why it’s perfect for the tour.
- Because, if there’s anything we learned from the first tour, it’s that getting like-minded individuals together is a really inspiring thing.
- A one-year tour of marathons, Do Life 5Ks, and meeting new people and meeting up with old friends from the first tour? Um… yes, please.
So here are a few logistics:
- Every Saturday or Sunday, we will be running an official marathon. But that’s not all. We will be running as an unofficial pacing group doing 5:30-6-hour marathons. This way, new runners who might want to coordinate their first-ever marathons can run with us at a reasonable beginner pace.
- Depending on whether the marathon is on a Saturday or Sunday, we will be coordinating and hosting 52 Do Life 5Ks on the non-marathon-day. The 5Ks will be much like this year’s tour. We will be changing some of the logistics, but the main premise will remain the same. And rest assured that the Do Life 5Ks will definitely be free of charge.
- We will be arriving into each city on Thursday of each week and seeking out speaking engagements in the city and the surrounding areas for Thursday and Friday. These might be in conjunction with the Marathon expo, some of them will be independent speaking engagements set up through local fitness centers, YMCAs, universities and high schools.
Now! We need your help.
We don’t want to just do 52 random marathons; we want to do 52 awesome marathons in 52 awesome places. We want to see it all.
Help us out by
- Nominating a marathon in the comment section. Please leave the date, the city, and the country (oh yeah, London, we’s a comin’ for you). Also, let us know a little bit about the marathon.
- Nominating some national and local charities. We think this will work best if we have a nice mix of big and small charities.
- Spreading the word. Sharing this link and mentioning this endeavor to your local running stores, fitness centers, news outlets, etc will help a great deal.
If you have any questions or comments, leave them in the comment section and we’ll be compiling a FAQ with some more information soon.
52 Marathons 52 5Ks 52 Weeks.
Pa, you thought you got tired of me this summer? It’s about to get a whole lot better.
See you out there.
